A Diwali That She Didn’t Feel Like Celebrating
Diwali is one of the most beautiful festivals in India.
Homes are cleaned and decorated, new clothes are bought, sweets are shared, gifts are exchanged, and families come together to celebrate the festival of lights.
But a few years ago, Diwali felt very different for Eshwari Banjare from Chhattisgarh.
Her career wasn’t going the way she had hoped, and things in her personal life weren’t great either. She simply wasn’t in the mood to celebrate.
She didn’t want to buy new clothes.
She didn’t want to go out.
She just wanted to let the festival pass quietly.
So, she decided that she wouldn’t buy anything new that Diwali.
Sometimes, Friends Know What We Need ❤️
When one of her close friends came to know how she was feeling, she didn’t try to give her big advice.
Instead, she simply said something like,
“Come on, let’s go out for a while. You’re not feeling good. Let’s just go for a walk and see something.”
And the two friends went shopping together.
They weren’t necessarily looking for anything specific. They were simply exploring the collections and enjoying each other’s company.
And that’s what happens with good friends, isn’t it?
For a little while, we forget our worries.
We laugh.
We talk.
We look at beautiful things.
We enjoy the moment.
And somewhere in between all of that, Eshwari noticed a saree.
The Saree She Couldn’t Buy
From a distance itself, the saree caught her attention.
Something about it made her want to walk closer and look at it.
She admired the saree and its beautiful work. She really liked it.
But then she looked at the price.
She knew she couldn’t buy it at that moment.
So, she simply left it there and moved on.
What she didn’t know was that her friend had noticed everything.
She had noticed the way Eshwari looked at that saree.
She had noticed how much she liked it.
And she remembered.
A Gift That Meant Much More Than a Saree
A little later, Eshwari received a surprise.
The very same saree she had admired but couldn’t buy was gifted to her by her friend.
That Diwali, she wore it.
And she looked beautiful.
Everyone around her noticed the saree and complimented her.
“Wow! Where did you get this saree?”
“It looks so beautiful on you!”
“You look gorgeous!”
And Eshwari had just one answer:
“My friend gifted it to me.”
But for Eshwari, that saree was much more than a beautiful piece of clothing.
It was a reminder that, during a difficult time in her life, someone noticed her.
Someone understood her.
Someone remembered the little thing that made her happy.
A Saree That Still Lives in Her Wardrobe
Even today, that saree is in Eshwari’s wardrobe.
And every time she opens her wardrobe and sees it, she remembers her friend.
She remembers that Diwali.
She remembers how she was feeling at that time.
And most importantly, she remembers the friendship behind that saree.
She may have bought many sarees since then.
She may celebrate many more Diwalis.
But that particular saree will always have a special place in her heart.
Because some sarees are not remembered for their price, their fabric, or their design.
They are remembered for the people and moments attached to them.
A Saree Can Hold a Story
Eshwari beautifully summed up the meaning of that saree with these words:
“Some friendships are not measured by how long people have known each other, but by how they stand beside us when life becomes difficult. For me, that saree will always remain a symbol of one such friendship.”
And perhaps that is the true beauty of a saree.
A saree can become a memory.
A gift can become a reminder.
And an ordinary moment can become a story that stays with us for a lifetime.
